We were doing so well last week with our critter rescue program, but we haven’t been so lucky the past few days. H did some research and discovered a Critter Escape Ramp made for small creatures that accidentally fall into the pool, so we stopped by the pool supply store to see if they carried it. With a dubious raising of the eyebrow, the young man waiting on us asked his supervisor, who assured him there was such a thing, but that they had not been able to acquire any. Their suggestion was to leave a few floating boogie boards in the pool for the critters to climb up on until they are close enough to the pool deck to jump off (at least in theory).
We have placed two boards in our pool. I have visions of looking out the window one morning and seeing a whole family of chipmunks practicing their sailing techniques while trying to reach the edge. (We hope to capture such an event on video… will keep you posted.)
I think there are drugs that can help you, although a short stay at Ridgeview may be required first!- I believe this may fall into the "delusional" category.
ReplyDeleteI have the same issue as you, I don't think the board will work though, as the chipmunks won't be able to pull themselves up. However, if you can drape some mesh fabric on top, that might work...kind of like the mesh around the Critter escape ramp...and maybe you can even staple it to the board...hmm, off to the dollar store for supplies :) HTH
ReplyDeleteThanks for the suggestion. So far, we haven't seen any signs of critters using the boards, but we also haven't had any casualties in the past week since we put the boards in the pool. I'll have to check into the mesh option.
